GCash Strengthens Security With New Self-Service Account and Money Management Tools

GCash has launched its new in-app Security Center, giving users centralized control over key account protection features. The hub brings together Lock My Account, Money Lock, and Subscription Center, allowing users to respond quickly to suspicious activity, protect funds, and manage connected merchants and apps.

The launch supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)’s Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA) and its efforts to strengthen protection against cybersecurity and financial scams.

More Control Over Account Security

Lock My Account, accessible through GCash’s AI-powered assistant Gigi, allows users to immediately freeze their account and block outgoing transactions when they detect unusual activity or suspect a scam. It can also be activated outside the GCash app, which is useful if a phone is lost, stolen, or compromised.

Once activated, the account is logged out of all active sessions, outgoing transactions are blocked, and changes to account information are restricted. Reactivation requires a request through Gigi and enhanced authentication, including Double Safe multi-factor authentication and additional verification.

The Subscription Center lets users see which merchants and apps are connected to their GCash account and unlink them when needed. Users can open the Subscription Center, select a merchant or app, and tap Unlink to stop future payments through GCash. Refunds for transactions that have already been processed must still be requested from the merchant, while GCash can provide transaction records and supporting documentation.

Money Lock lets users secure a portion of their wallet funds through GSave, GCash’s savings service offered with BSP-supervised partner banks including CIMB Bank Philippines, UNO Digital Bank, BPI, and Maybank Philippines. Locked funds remain under the user’s ownership but cannot be used for regular GCash transactions until they are unlocked, while the remaining balance stays available for everyday use.

The Security Center also brings together existing security tools, including device management, authentication settings, and security education resources, giving users a single place to manage their account protection.

Strengthening Protection Against Scams

The Security Center forms part of GCash’s broader security efforts against scams and unauthorized access. Recent measures include moving OTPs into the GCash app to help counter phishing, taking action against quishing and fake websites, and blocking more than 3,200 merchants linked to illegal gambling.

The new security features were deployed beginning June 2026. GCash encourages users to regularly review connected merchants and apps, update security settings, and use the available protection tools to help keep their accounts and funds secure.
